Job Title: Consultant
Location: West Michigan Based, Remote
Compensation: $150 per hour, flat, project-based rates determined per engagement
Shift and Schedule: 5-15 hours a week, variable work hours subject to business needs
This is a project-based consulting role that requires flexible availability to support client and internal team meetings. Consultants must be able to accommodate meetings during standard business hours, with occasional evening availability based on project and community engagement needs. Availability may vary by project phase and will be coordinated in advance with the Khamai Strategies team.

JOB OVERVIEW
The Consultant serves as a key project team member responsible for leading and supporting strategic planning and community engagement initiatives for municipalities, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations. Consultants are expected to work independently, manage assigned components of projects, and represent Khamai Strategies in high-stakes, client-facing environments.
This role requires the ability to engage meaningfully with a wide range of stakeholders, including elected officials, executive leadership, staff, boards, and community members, while navigating differing priorities, power dynamics, and political or organizational sensitivities. Consultants are not observers; they are active facilitators, thought partners, and problem-solvers. This contract begins with a 90-day trial period to assess fit and performance. The selected candidate will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning & Facilitation:
Lead or co-lead strategic planning efforts, including discovery, goal setting, prioritization, and implementation planning
Facilitate planning sessions, retreats, workshops, and working meetings with leadership teams, boards, and cross-functional staff
Support the development of strategic frameworks, action plans, and measurable outcomes
Community & Stakeholder Engagement:
Design and implement engagement strategies tailored to project goals and community context
Facilitate listening sessions, focus groups, public meetings, and interviews with residents and stakeholders
Engage effectively with elected officials, C-suite leaders, department heads, staff, board members, community leaders, and neighborhood residents
Navigate complex stakeholder dynamics and ensure inclusive, productive dialogue
Analysis, Synthesis & Deliverables:
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data gathered through engagement activities
Synthesize findings into clear insights, themes, and recommendations
Contribute to written deliverables such as strategic plans, engagement summaries, reports, presentations, and executive briefings
Ensure deliverables are clear, actionable, and aligned with client goals
Client & Team Collaboration:
Participate in client meetings and internal project check-ins
Coordinate closely with project managers and other consultants to meet timelines and deliverables
Communicate proactively about progress, risks, and needs
Uphold Khamai Strategies’ values, standards, and approach in all client interactions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (required)
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and stakeholder engagement
Proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including elected officials, executive leadership, staff, boards, and community members
Experience working with municipalities, nonprofits, or mission-driven organizations
Strong facilitation, communication, and synthesis skills
Ability to manage project-based work independently and meet deadlines
Experience in public-sector or politically sensitive environments
Experience facilitating equity-centered or community-informed processes
Familiarity with translating engagement outcomes into implementation-ready strategies
